What Online Home Business Should You Start?

The most important and difficult decision entrepreneurs need to make is what online home business they should have. Sometimes the online home business never gets off the ground because the would-be-entrepreneurs don’t know what they can sell and profit from. This article will explain the steps on how to decide what business to be in.

Here are three things you need to understand:

1. The product or service you’re selling, needs to solve a problem for your market.

2. The product or service does not have to be original. Copy what is already selling well and try to add something extra to it.

3. Have a passion and interest in your online home business.

Whatever you’re selling online, you need to make sure that it is a good offer. Something that solves a problem and improve people’s lives.

For example, selling an ebook on how to trouble shoot a PC is a good one. It is a clear offer and people are willing to pay to learn how to troubleshoot their own computer.

For your product or service, don’t force yourself to think of something that is unique. This is very important because it is much easier to make money by selling things which are already a success. Don’t try to re-invent the wheel.

If you see there are already a lot of ebooks or services on teaching people how to do furnish their homes, then you know that it’s a profitable market. Otherwise there won’t be that many people in the business.

Coming up with a original product or service is very hard. Plus it doesn’t mean that it will sell. The chances of failing with an original idea are high.

Try to think of something extra to add to your product. Either by offering free telephone support, free gifts, or email support with the purchase. Or add an additional 2 weeks training when a customer purchases your ebook.

You can come up with many ideas to make your offer stand out. After that it depends on how effective your marketing is in promoting your business.

The third and most important element to consider for your online home business is to choose a business that you have a passion and interest in. If your business is something which you love and have an insatiable desire to learn, you’ll have a much better chance of succeeding with the business.

Being a freelance writer myself and running a company with article writing as one of my services, I see a lot of clients’ resource boxes and give advice on what they should change.

Well I just found out something interesting which will make your articles drive a lot more traffic to your website :-)

Here’s how I found about this improvement

I was doing research for my client’s articles and was browsing through the articles on Ezine Directories.
I was scanning the content and all the resource boxes, gathering information on what type of products and services the writers were promoting.

After scanning through 30 or more articles, there were about 2 links which I clicked through in the resource box. This only occurred to me after a while so I searched through my bookmarks and tried to find out what links I clicked on.

What I found was quite amazing. The 2 links which I clicked on in resource boxes had the same sort of call to action which appealed to me. This was:

“For more information, click on <<>>”

Without seeming too excited, I started to implement these changes for my clients. And the result is….click thru rates increased a lot. A lot as in nearly double the average number of clicks my clients used to have.

My explanation why this simple call to action works is because the reader is attracted to the content by its title. Even if they don’t enjoy the content or glance at it, they would love to click on links that will give them more information.

People are reading articles for information. So simply telling them that you have more of what they want is enough to persuade them to click on your link.

In my tests so far, I have found that this call to action works better than offering the reader a free download to a report or video. It is probably because people are so used to clicking on the words “Click here for more information”.

My tests have not been extensive but so far, it has worked with 4 of my clients I have tested with. Being a freelance writer has helped me a lot in understanding article marketing :-)

One of the most interesting things I found last week, was from one of my clients who approached my company looking for a freelance writer. He was testing Paypal transactions for his ebook and did not know how to refund a Paypal payment and was losing transaction fees in the process.

Using the refund function in Paypal is something I took for granted that everyone knew. Which was wrong in my part. Never assume that what you know is common sense.
